Two of our smartest data nerds recently dug into what we know and can learn about student study habits. In the latest podcast from the Verba I VitalSource Coffee Chat series, Nick Brown, director of learning platforms at VitalSource, joins Jared Pearlman, vice president, institutions, at VitalSource, for a conversation about student behaviors inside digital course materials, the insights they provide, and next steps.
Nick also shares some big takeaways from the last 11 months of COVID learning:
1. The biggest change of all: the pure volume of students going digital. While this seems obvious, it’s worth pointing out the number of students using digital course materials is massive and only getting bigger.
2. The data shows similar engagement trends and usage throughout the semester or quarter even as numbers grow.
3. After the huge number of campus closings in the spring, international usage jumped from 20 percent to 35 percent, a massive shift.
4. Students who download the Bookshelf app are more likely to engage with the materials.
This is just the tip of the iceberg for this conversation. To hear the whole chat and learn more about how the landscape continues to evolve for digital course materials and how campus stores can increase engagement, listen to the episode now.
